A product that meets the challenges of the European labour market.
Jobsmart Europe, a job portal like no other
Jobsmart is the first product launched by Jobkontor Berlin, a product-driven company with a mission to create solutions to labour market challenges.
The product, developed both as a web platform and a mobile app, offers a unique opportunity for German companies to connect with motivated European jobseekers, addressing the staffing challenges of many sectors - while providing a gateway to Germany for workers from all corners of Europe.
How UX design quickly became a bottleneck
Faced with challenges around workload calculation and process clarity, the project had to move forward as the engineers were already in place. Armed with only a defined set of features and a brand style guide, they began coding the MVP.
UX design was quickly becoming the bottleneck, and it became clear to the PM that the involvement of a freelance UX designer wasn't going to give the development of the job portal enough steam to get it to market as quickly as planned. Seeing an opportunity to speed things up, the team called us in to help.
How we helped unlock Jobsmart’s situation
Our first step was to help the Product Manager set a clear roadmap for the team by defining clear objectives, creating user journey maps and setting up regular check-ins with the product team, stakeholders, and potential users.
Three of brightside studio's UX/UI designers integrated the Jobsmart product team and in carefully planned 2-week sprints we were able to quickly deliver finished MVP flows to the developers. In just 6 weeks, we gradually eliminated the team's design bottleneck.
About the product, challenges and solutions
From a conceptual and design point of view, there were many aspects to consider:
- The product MVP was to be translated into 7 languages, so the design and infrastructure had to support this.
- The users demographic was wide and not particularly digitally savvy, so the application and job posting flows had to be kept clear and simple.
- It was also important that jobseekers and companies could find each other quickly, so we had to make sure the process connecting the two parties was kept to a minimum.
How cross-functional team collaboration worked
As a team of UX experts and consultants, we supported the client with both strategy and design.
Focusing on the client's need for a fast release, we worked hand in hand with the developers and the PM to prioritise urgent tasks, brainstorm on user flows, move through large chunks of the UI quickly, work closely with the developers to test and review ideas, and even deliver a high quality, scalable UI kit that serves both the app and the web portal.
The results that came out of this collaboration
Since the launch of the MVP, the Jobsmart team has been working on onboarding new users to the platform and collecting data and feedback on the MVP. The data will ultimately help the product team continuously improve and scale the product in the right direction.
Our strong working relationship with the Jobsmart team will enable us to continue to explore solutions to the challenges of the labour market and help the team to stay one step ahead when operating on the European market.
